VSAT Field Engineering Training Course
VSAT was originally intended for sporadic store-and-forward data communications but has evolved into real-time internet services. VSAT uses existing satellite broadcasting technology with higher powered components and antennas manufactured with higher precision than conventional satellite television systems. The satellite antenna at the customer's location includes, in addition to the receiver, a relatively high-powered transmitter that sends a signal back to the originating satellite. A very small portion of a transponder is used for each VSAT return path channel. Each VSAT terminal is assigned a frequency for the return path which it shares with other VSAT terminals using a shared transmission scheme such as time division multiple access
The VSAT Field Engineering Course is an intensive program designed for installers of bi-directional satellite earth stations. The Course will offer both theoretical and practical skills transfer as applicable to DVB/TDMA VSAT field engineers, support engineers and operational managers. The course is divided into two sessions, a class-room theory session that introduces participants to the basics of satellite communication and a practical session that covers the fundamentals that all VSAT field technicians should know, including cross-pol and accurate dish pointing.

Course objectives
This practical-oriented course is designed to ensure that all operational technicians/engineers acquire an understanding of the operational technology used in the DVB/TDMA VSAT industry. The goals are to enable the participants achieve a better understanding of the range of equipment and systems in use, and realise how they can relate to the various technical job responsibilities held. The programme also serves as a useful revision for more experienced technical personnel.
