FOA CFxT - Fiber To The Home/Premises Certification

The IT and Telecoms industry has reached a common understanding that Fiber To The Home/Premise(FTTH/P) fiber broadband access network will be the final settlement for the fixed broadband access network. FTTx technology mainly includes Fiber to the curb (FTTC), Fiber to the building (FTTB) and Fiber to the home/premise (FTTH/P). Fiber to the X, whether it is fiber to the home (FTTH), to the building (FTTB) or to the user (FTTx), has long been a goal of the fiber optic industry. The installation of FTTx networks has exploded, creating opportunities and challenges for those involved with network design, installation and operation

This course covers Fiber To The Home/Premises/Curb (called FTTx) focuses on training installation technicians already familiar with fiber optic installation (and FOA CFOT certified) or can be structured to train other personnel in support roles, including customer care service professionals.

Course Objectives

This course discusses what the fiber optic technicians must know (and address) for FTTx systems to operate effectively. The course features both classroom and hands-on content including splicing and testing demonstrations. The classroom portion provides an overview of the Passive Optical Networks topology and architecture, with a focus on how to splice and test optical splitters, and cable spans from the optical line terminal (OLT) to the optical network terminal (ONT)

The Course covers key areas in FTTx such as:

  • Why FTTx is being implemented today, including technical, marketing and financial justifications.
  • The types of FTTx architectures being used, advantages and disadvantages of each and types of components required.
  • Technical details of specialized FTTx components like splitters and wavelength-division multiplexers and requirements for cables, connectors, splices and hardware.
  • Design and installation requirements particular to FTTx.
  • Testing and troubleshooting FTTx links.
  • Specialized safety requirements of FTTx.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand FTTx Achitecture
  • Understand the different types of Optical Fiber Networks
  • Test FTTx newtworks
  • Cost an FTTx implementation
  • Understand the FTTx market

Who should attend?

Prerequisites: For technicians: CFOT certification (understanding of basic fiber optics, components, installation practice, testing). This training program is not limited to installers or technicians, it is an excellent credential for sales and marketing personnel, indicating their comprehensive knowledge of the industry and building confidence in their assistance to their customers.
